Bogotá, February 5, 2026 (@Minagricultura) – The Community of Latin
American and Caribbean States (CELAC) will hold the 2026 Ministerial and
High-Level Authorities Meeting on Agriculture in Cartagena, a key forum to
strengthen regional action against hunger, malnutrition, and food insecurity.
The meeting will take place on February 27, 2026, within the framework of the
International Conference on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development
(ICARRD+20).
Entitled “Advances in Food and Nutrition Security in the Framework of the
Implementation of the CELAC Food and Nutrition Security Plan and Its
Relationship with Land Governance,” the meeting will provide an opportunity to
share progress, identify persistent challenges, and agree on actions for
cooperation and integration to accelerate the implementation of the CELAC
Food and Nutrition Security Plan 2030. This regional roadmap aims to eradicate
hunger and advance the guarantee of the human right to adequate food. The
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Colombia, Martha Carvajalino,
currently holds the Pro Tempore Presidency of the Plan, which will be handed
over during the event to the Minister of Agriculture of Uruguay.
The meeting will bring together agricultural authorities from the 33 Member
States, as well as international organizations that are part of the technical
support committee for the Plan, including FAO, IICA, ECLAC, and ALADI.
The agenda includes the presentation of the regional outlook on food and
nutrition security, a dialogue on the relationship between food security,
nutrition, and land governance, and a session aimed at gathering lessons
learned, reviewing previous commitments, and defining the next steps for the
implementation, follow-up, and monitoring of the CELAC Food and Nutrition
Security Plan 2030.
This meeting seeks to translate regional coordination into concrete decisions
aimed at strengthening policies and cooperation mechanisms that promote the
transition toward sustainable agrifood systems, ensuring that food is more
available and accessible, with social and environmental justice
